I have been good…

until now.

I am completely obsessed with gossip and normally I get my gossip from the million magazines that I buy or get delivered to my apartment.  Well my subscriptions are done and for the past 4 months I have not purchased one smut magazine.  Self magazine, yes. Women’s Health, yes, Cooking Light, yes.  UsWeekly, InTouch, People or any other gossip magazine, no.


Just ask my parents who lived with me when the obsessions started and I had 5 large boxes that needed to be dumped out with just pure smut magazines when I moved to college.  It didn’t get any better in college, grad school or in the past 3 years. Just ask my  husband who has to pull me away from any magazine rack no matter what deadline we are under. I even got into a fight with my husband who was trying to be sweet and buy me a subscription to my favorite magazine USWeekly for Christmas and it was a disaster.  I would whine, complain and be upset every week that my copy got here 1-2 days AFTER it went on the grocery racks. {seriously, tell me this bugs someone else besides meeee!}

So I have been getting my fill through the internet, radio and hearsay…and it is gut-rentching every single time I walk away from a magazine rack. I almost failed a couple times over the past couple months but I skim it really quick in the grocery store {while picking the longest time to sit in} and normally I get enough to be able to put it down.

not this time. not this People magazine. I just have to know what went down…what she has to say…and learn more about the dets. I have held out for 4 months, but this cover had me at hello and the first chance I get to be in a store that can supply me with this magazine I will be purchasing it and soaking up every single page. pure bliss.

Say hello to my little friend…

Blog meet my new bestie Canon 30d {sorry klamb}.  Once I figure out how to do more than turn this baby on you will be seeing her more on my blog.  Yes, it is a her but she is nameless at the moment.  maybe sparkles because she makes my eyes sparkle and she sparkles everywhere I take her, which since last night has been the car and my apartment. baby steps. hahaha. 

There is a story about this camera {because with me there is ALWAYS a story!}.  For a year now I have been wanting a professional camera and the deal was {because my husband and I make deals…all.the.time.} that once I sell my wedding dress I would be able to use all that money for a camera and accessories.  done and done. I will totally sell my dress for an amazing camera and the start of my hopes and dreams.  Flash forward a year.  A couple bites on the dress but endless dead ends.  Fustration and many nights trying my bestest to sell my beautiful, lovely, best purchase everr with no hope in sight.  I thought my hopes and dreams were just going to be stalled foreverrrrrrr because well I am a drama queen.  I had been really really trying and to no avail and so I would ebb and flow with looking at professional cameras only to know I had to accomplish something first. 

Until yesterday. Until when my biggest supporter in my life, my husband put a kaboosh to the deal we once made a year ago.  When he put his urge to save every penny we ever earn aside for me this one very special time.  He said as we were driving home late at night that no money in the bank could have been worth it after seeing my face light up as I clutched my very first professional camera in my hands. 

now my hopes and dreams are in my hands {literally} and really now there are no excuses.  there is no dress that I can hide behind anymore.  it is all up to me. me and my camera. love at first sight. xoxo.

oh and on the way to pick up my camera I got an email from a potencial buyer for my dress asking…is the dress still available? hahaha oh the irony of this whole saga if the dress actually does sell…

My lovely husband put the idea in my mind that we should do the Groton Road Race this year since last year I had to bail because spring weekend was the same weekend.  I told him I just needed to see what was happening work wise since in April anything can happen. 

Well about a month a go I brought up that I had the Sunday off and we could do the Groton Road Race. WHOOT WHOOT!

Not so much. My husband flat out said no, not this year.


Well this past week it was so nice out and we have been doing really well with our workouts we both were feeling great and soooooo….over text I asked once again if we could do the Groton Road Race {i am stubborn what can I say!}.

This is how the text went down 3 days before the race…

Me: I’m still kinda sorta thinking of  doing the Groton 5k and it is only 22 bucks to register. Any thoughts? {waiting for the hella no answer again…}

Husband: Sign us up!

UMMMMMM excuse me?? That is all it took was one text??? Where was this person a month ago???

Hey I will take what I can get! So I signed us up and I was a bit frightened because I have been doing circuit training rather than the running I was doing about a month ago to try to switch things up a bit.  I didn’t know if I was really ready for a 5k since I had slowed my running down but hey it was going to be beautiful day for running and really WHY NOT?!  I ran a mile and a half around Lowell and I was feeling good and so I was like great I will be able to kick this 5k in the BOOTY!

So we woke up this past Sunday morning and I had the breakfast of champions: 1/4 cup of plain nonfat yogurt, cut up strawberries, cut of banana and vanilla almond granola.  I absolutely hate the taste of this plain nonfat yougurt I bought, but I have a huge container of it so I am just adding everything I can to the bowl in order to down it every other morning.  It definately gave me the fuel I needed for the race and it keeps me really full until lunch time during the week.

We got there early because we didn’t pick up our packets the day before since both of us had been working.  My lovely husband was worried it would be a mad house and it would take forever so we left 2 1/2 hours prior to the start time of our race.  We got there super early and there were no lines and so it was quick and easy.  We were able to watch the Tot’s trot, and 2k and literally we family/dog watched the entire morning.  There really can’t be anything more priceless than seeing 1-6 year olds running a race they have no clue is really a race. priceless. I wish I could have gotten pictures of all of the great activities that were happening with families, but our camera was in our car and so alas, no pictures of all the fun.  I even got a FREE massage before the race…BONUS!

Since it was a walk from the car to the start of the 5k we only took pictures near the car right before the race was going to begin… {i will preface that I am a total dork in front a camera!}

Overall, the race went really well! I was clocking about 12 minute miles when I was doing 3-4 mile runs before the circuit training I was doing.  My goal was to keep the 12 minute miles for the race and of course the ultimate goal is to get to 30 minutes.  Anything between 30-36 minutes would have been a great success for me for my first 5k EVERRR and the first one of the year. My husband said right before the musket went off that I should shoot for 35 minutes and I said YES! and off we went….

My husband has a ton of gangle and stamina so I knew I would not be pacing with him but we wished each other luck as we approached about a quarter of a mile into the race.  I kept a steady pace and felt really good and at the 1 mile mark I was at 10:20! OH EM GEE definately better than I thought! I was still doing well and just slowed down my pace a little bit to get up 2 stupid {aka awful hills!} and a little after the top I hit the 2 mile marker and I was 20:30 and so the second mile I did in 10:10 but with two hills. WHAT WHAT! I was definately really excited about my pace so far but I could tell that the hills completely wiped me out and I hit a wall.  I had to stop twice between mile 2 and 3, which really really bothered me and I had to significantly slow my roll…

and so for my first 5k I ran it is 33:00 minutes!!!

Which is 11 minute miles although the last mile took me a little less than 13 minutes.  I was really proud and really excited that I finished the race strong by sprinting the last .1 miles.   Something that I definately learned that I need to work on is running with hills!! There are not many hills where I run and on the treadmill I never increase the incline and so that will be what I work on this month to prepare for the next 5k is the HILLS! I know that I can do it within 30 minutes I just need to recover better on hills that come my way!  I was uber pumped and it definately charged me up to start to do a mixture of circuits and running because another 5k in May is on our horizon.

If you didn’t enough pictures here are two more of us actually in the race {and not just pretending to run in the parking lot}.   We look like we are in so much pain but really we had a great time and felt sweet victory at the end…

Any suggestions of a pretty 5k in the New England area in the next couple months??

tip c cupcakes

Looks like your average cupcake, right? Oh you couldn’t be soooo wrong.  Move out Magnolia Bakery {my favorite cupcake place in the whole wide world} tip c cupcake is on the rise! Cupcakes are my weakness {hello, I had cupcakes at my wedding!} and I have a great friend who shares a cupcake love with me {you know who you are!} and so I am always on the look out for a new cupcake.  Some people chase the ice cream truck…I chase after cupcake trucks. HAHA! 

tip c cupcakes not only look like delicious cupcakes but they have ALCOHOL in them. {get the name now? tip c cupcakes = tipsy cupcakes…hahaha} Yes ladies, why eat a cupcake and have some wine on the side when you can have the alcohol INSIDE your dessert??!! pure bliss.  I just learned about this place and I can’t wait to go and try them out and their menu is to die for.  The location is North Providence, RI and while visiting my sister for dinner in 2 weeks in the good state of RI I may have to twist her arm to try this place! I of course will report back…

Oh, and if I don’t like what they have to offer on their extensive menu then I can make my own. SAYYY WHAAATTTT?? They also have non-alcoholic cupcakes but really if you are going ot this shop why not go all the way???

Jammin’ Jambalaya

{not my Jambalaya because it was a quick night–but looks similiar!}

So last night we wanted to work out at the gym and eat a healthy dinner AND get to a party by 7:00pm.  Phew! It was a close call, but we were able to make it on time and get everything done.  Not before my husband and I had a bit of an argument on what the difference between chopped and diced was {he was on peppers and onion duty}.   So I got home and although our first instint was to eat something quick I really really really wanted to try Jillian Michael’s Peppered Chicken and Shrimp Jambalaya.  So I gave myself 30 minutes to prepare for this meal and with the help of my husband chopping {not dicing} the vegetables we were able to get this meal ready to serve in 30 minutes! We left the meal on low while we went to the gym so that the rice could soak up the juices for another 45 minutes.  Overall we really enjoyed this meal and it was very filling and delicious AND SPICY!


1 tablespoon of olive oil {we ran out last week so we used vegetable oil}

1/2 pound skinless, bonelss chicken breast halves, diced {i used 2 large chicken breasts}

1 1/2 cups finely chopped onion {i used 1 large onion}

1/2 cup diced red bell pepper

1/2 cup diced green bell pepper

1/2 cup diced yellow bell pepper

1 1/2 cups uncooked long-grain rice

1/2 teaspoon of dried tyme

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper {i used red pepper flakes}

1 cup of water

2 {16 ounce} cans fat-free, low sodium chicken broth

2 {14.5 ounce} cans diced tomatoes, undrained

1/2 pound medium shrimp {I used large shrimp}

1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

1/4 cup choppped fresh parsley {used dried parsley}


  • Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add chicken, kielbasa and cook until done.
  • In another frying pan with oil saute’ the peppers and onions for about 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender-crisp, stirring frequently
  • While you are frying the peppers and onions add the shrimp to the chicken/kielbasa frying pan to cook them up
  • In a large stock pot add rice, saute 2 minutes stirring constantly.  Add thyme, black, pepper, red pepper {or red pepper flakes}; saute for 1 minute
  • In the large stock pot add the water, broth, and tommatoes; bring to a boil over medium-high heat
  • Add the chicken, kielbasa, and shrimp to the stock pot {liquid does not need to be boiling to do this step}
  • Add the peppers and onions to the stock pot as well
  • Add the hot sauce last and then cover and reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 15 minutes


The title doesn’t state that there is kiellbasa in it but there is and it really makes the meal  Jammin’ Jambalaya!

Although the meal is ready after the 15 minutes the rice may need a little longer to cook and soak up the liquid if you use the uncooked type.  If you want this to be a quick meal I would cook the rice prior or use insta-rice to putting it in the stock pot if you do not have about an hour to let simmer.  We ate it around 30 minutes simmering and some of the rice was still a little undercooked. 

The hotter you want this meal the more red pepper and hot sauce you can add to the meal!

**Overall this meal can go a long way because it is very filling yet not too heavy! We didn’t even make a dent into the Jambalaya and it will be a couple lunches and dinner for ourselves in the next couple of weeks.  I was able to freeze some for days that it is very hectic and we can’t make dinner.  I would make this meal again any day!

Serves approximately 6 {serving size is 2 cups}.  The serving fills up a large bowl and so I ate 1 cup full {1/2 serving}

Calories: 374     Fat: 6.6g   Protein: 26g    Sodium: 919mg   Fiber: 3g   Carbs: 51.3

For my body the goal is to have a 40-30-30 diet, which is 40% carb, 30% fat, 30% protein.   This meal is 55% carb, 15% fat, and 28% protein.
